The Amazing Adventures of Bill

May 15, 2008

This was created for a contest at Comics Worth Reading, inspired by this poster by Adam Hughes. Click here for a (much) larger version of my poster.

This was a fun challenge for me, since I've never drawn superheroes before, and I couldn't rely on the costume. Since the original poster included two villains (Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn), I decided to include Lex Luthor and the Joker. There's a bunch of Green Lanterns running around, but this was inspired by a Vogue fashion shoot, and they're all about the tokenism, so John Stewart it was. Once a Marine, always a Marine, so I put him in the uniform. I included the Jay Garrick Flash mostly because I wanted someone with a hat, and the only heroes I could think of with hats were him and the Phantom Stranger, and I figured the Flash is a bigger name, plus I could include an older character. If it had just been "Males of the DC Universe" I definitely would have thrown in Gorilla Grodd and Klarion the Witch Boy, but I stuck with human men (except Robin, because I consider him an extension of Batman).
